Lifebuoy has evolved into a €1 billion brand and the world’s number one selling germ protection soap, sold in over 50 countries. Our mission is to make a difference by creating quality, affordable products and promoting healthy hygiene habits. Since 2010, our hand hygiene initiatives and campaigns have reached over 1 billion people on the importance of handwashing to prevent illness.

Since the launch of Lifebuoy in 1894, our iconic red soap bar and its distinctive scent has been synonymous with cleanliness. Today, the brand is so much more – with its superior technology and new innovations brought to life across its many soap variants and specially designed hand and body washes, Lifebuoy is ensuring daily hygiene for the entire family.

Championing the importance of hand hygiene

Lifebuoy was born more than 100 years ago, at a time when infectious diseases were the primary cause of death. Armed with a mission to “make cleanliness commonplace”, we have positioned ourselves in the service of public health, by actively championing good hygiene to over 1 billion people.

Our expertise lies in designing educational content that encourages hygiene behaviour change, targeting children and parents to integrate handwashing with soap into their daily routines. To do this, we have developed multiple handwashing programmes designed for various settings and purposes. But we do not do this alone – we are supported by a network of around 70 partners, including some of the biggest NGOs, across over 25 countries. Our commitment to hygiene has been recognised in ten peer-reviewed journals and earned us over 100 awards across platforms such as Cannes Lions.

As Unilever’s largest hygiene soap power brand, Lifebuoy’s commitment to preventing illness extends to advocating for hygiene globally. In 2016, Lifebuoy, alongside key players, successfully incorporated a handwashing indicator to the Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 6 – this indicator was focused on having a handwashing facility with both soap and water available at home, setting a global benchmark for hygiene.
